Hupfer – the success story of a company that has developed from a manufacturer of wire mesh to a specialist in kitchen and sterile supplies logistics, with sales offices in 11 countries and various international trade partners.

1870-1905

In 1870, Julius Hupfer establishes the company bearing his name in Zeitz, Saxony, for the production of wire mesh. Relocations, additions to the product range and the death of the founder, whose son Max then takes over the reins, define the first 35 years of the company’s history.

1905 – 1940

Over the next 40 years, the company becomes one of the leading wire mesh manufacturers in Germany. Continuous expansion of the product range and increasing demand for Hupfer products require more relocations to increase production capacity.

1940 – 1960

Destruction in the Second World War and reconstruction, the death of Julius Hupfer’s son Max, the conversion of the sole proprietorship Julius Hupfer into a limited partnership and the entry of the Schumacher family shape this period of the company’s history.

1960 – 1980

Extensive market research results in major restructuring by new management. The company enjoys a successful 20 year period from the start of shelf manufacturing to the start of production of catering systems.

1980 – 1995

Relocation of production and administration to Coesfeld and an extensive diversification of the product range lay the foundations for the company to become a leading supplier of catering, medical and custom systems. International subsidiaries are established and another plant in Saxony begins operations. Helmut Schumacher and Manfred Pohlschmidt become managing directors.

1995 – to date

Over the next 20 years, companies are acquired in the UK and the Sauerland, and established in the United States and the United Arab Emirates. This period is also marked by various building work at the Coesfeld site and the setting of energy targets in the context of Germany’s new clean energy policy. In 2014, Hupfer receives the Intergastra trade fair’s innovation award for ISOBOX Mobil.
